Of recent interest, in light of the declining world economy, our Managing Director, Stephen L. Bluestone recently submitted an article to The Score, an English credit management publication, which comments on the current environment of international consumer debt recovery. BRI representatives attended the Federation of European National Collection Associations (FENCA) World Congress in Nice, France. The three day conference included speakers from various European associations, as well as attendees from around the world, focused on current trends in the credit industry. The event included a panel discussion on the current debt buying and selling markets, as well as a colloboration between Latin American and European organizations.

 

Vice President and General Counsel, Minh Ngoc Nguyen attended the Managing Disputes in China Conference at the Harvard Club of New York City. The day long conference offered panel discussions on arbitration and dispute resolution topics, including mediating Chinese and foreign business disputes, litigation in Chinese courts,and arbitration inside and outside of China. Speakers included the Secretary General of the Beijing Arbitration Commission and the Secretary General of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC).

 

The Company is a proud sponsor of the Pan-American Student Loan Conference that took place at Swissotel in Lima, Peru which was organized by the World Bank and Universia aiming to expose the present situation and the world tendencies on educational loan that could be applied in Latin America. Prominent politicians, academicians, and members of multilateral organizations participated in the conference.

 

President Stephen L. Bluestone and Vice President M. Zachary Bluestone spent two weeks during July meeting with both agents and debtors in Venezuela, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Apart from the reoccurring lessons which we all learn that with the help of a local agent, resolutions can often be reached across a conference table in the debtor's city. Stephen and Zack met with prospective new agents which we look forward to adding to our roster of high quality collection colleagues.

 

Our Latin American staff represented by Vice President Minh Ngoc T. Nguyen and Asset Recovery Manager, Jeffrey Kihien presented a working seminar on Latin American security instruments, recovery strategies and bankruptcies, and enjoyed working with attending credit manager FCIB members at The Renaissance Scottsdale Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.
